At BA, Art & Language Exploration Spark Creativity
Art Exploration
Art experiences vary by grade and incorporate cross-curriculum connections to increase vocabulary. A peek inside our classrooms might show kindergartners working on fine motor skills making paper collages or 5th graders testing their talents at clay-crafting Native American pinch pots.
Our goal is to strike a balance between structure and creativity by giving scholars adequate time to learn about artists, art history, and various techniques, with plenty of time left over to put their inspirations into action.
We host spring and winter showcases to share scholars’ artistic expressions with family and friends.
Art teacher Marcus Lloyd says, “Scholars need to know it’s okay to express yourself in different ways like drawing, writing, painting, and creating. It’s an outlet with many positive benefits.”
Language Exploration
While more than 6,000 languages are spoken worldwide, Mandarin is the immersive language experience taught at Butler Academy. All scholars are exposed to Mandarin weekly, working independently and in small groups to develop their speaking and comprehension skills.
They learn to read and write characters, plus explore teacher Wanlin Lin’s native culture through music, food, and holidays, like the Chinese New Year.
