Our Story & Goals

Proving What's Possible

Play Video

We believe there is no room for academic inequity in any school or community, which is why we founded Butler Academy in 2020, and why we’re committed to closing the achievement gap as soon as we possibly can.

For years, an unfair divide has separated the white and black students of Darlington County and students living in poverty, facing disabilities, and coping with adverse childhood experiences.

Our dynamic learning environment is now changing how children are met, embraced, and uplifted, positioning them for social, emotional, and academic success.

Our rigorous curriculum model, carefully chosen faculty and staff, and high expectations for every scholar entering our doors transform the historical narrative, bucking the status quo and shifting our community’s mindset by proving what’s possible.

It’s why we’re here. It’s why we’re BA.

Our Ambitious Goal & Four-Year Timeline

Call us BRAVE, but by 2030, we expect at least 75% of our scholars to be performing at the 75th percentile or higher in reading and math by the end of their 4th year at BA.

This aspiring goal reflects our commitment to ensuring college readiness for every BA graduate should they choose the higher-education path. The four-year mark gives scholars adequate time to become immersed in our culture of high values, beliefs, and practices, which will dramatically impact their academic growth.

Because academic achievement plays the most significant role in college admissions, we’re teaching scholars the fundamentals of preparation and expectations to help increase their eligibility at selective schools.

Our 75th% benchmark allows us to support every scholar’s academic success by creating growth goals specific to their exceptional social, emotional, and intellectual needs.
